State Regents' GEAR UP Program Awards More Than $700,000 to Oklahoma Schools
Nov. 29, 2010-- The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s GEAR UP program recently awarded $710,309 in college access subgrants to 28 school districts targeting 36 sites across the state to fund professional development for teachers so they can continue to strengthen learning opportunities and increase student achievement. In addition, the money will provide much-needed funding for financial aid education, student tutoring, mentoring, college prep activities, career exploration and parent workshops.


State Regents' GEAR UP Program Awards $143,500 to Lawton Public Schools
Nov. 22, 2010-- The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education announced today the award of $143,500 to Lawton Public Schools to fund professional development for teachers so they can continue to strengthen learning opportunities and increase student achievement. In addition, the money provides much-needed funding for financial aid education, student tutoring, mentoring, college prep activities, career exploration and parent workshops.


Lawton Parents Showcase Oklahoma GEAR UP Leadership Program at National Conference
Aug. 24, 2010-- Karen Lewis and Linda Flaig, members of the Lawton MacArthur Middle School Parent Leadership Team, were one of six teams selected from across the country to present their accomplishments and experiences with other parent leaders during the 2010 National Council for Community and Education Partnerships/GEAR UP Annual Conference recently held in Washington D.C. The conference hosted more than 2,400 parent leaders and state higher education advocates as they came together to promote positive change in students, schools and communities with the hope of making college possible for all students across the nation.


Parents Support Local Education Efforts by Completing Leadership Projects
Jul. 8, 2010-- Parents from 10 Oklahoma schools have successfully completed school-improvement projects as part of a leadership program that encourages and trains parents to become more effective advocates for their local schools. The program, the Oklahoma GEAR UP Parent Leadership Academy, educates parent volunteers on school data, team building and leadership skills.


GEAR UP Incentive Grants Help Raise College Aspiration, Preparation Levels in Oklahoma
Jan. 28, 2010-- Oklahoma GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) has awarded a total of $190,500 in subgrants to nine community- and faith-based organizations across the state. The funds will help students and families prepare for college through programs that provide access to financial aid, localized mentoring and tutoring services, college campus tours, individualized counseling and academic planning.

November 16, 2009-- The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s GEAR UP program recently awarded $225,000 in college access subgrants to 18 school districts and sites across Oklahoma. The subgrants will help fund professional development for teachers as they adopt new classroom strategies proven to help students learn more effectively. Also, the money will provide much-needed funding for financial aid education, student tutoring, mentoring, career exploration and parent workshops.

November 16, 2009-- State Regent Bill W. Burgess announced today the award of $75,000 to Lawton Public Schools to help fund professional development for teachers as they adopt new classroom strategies proven to help students learn more effectively. Families Encouraged to Save, Plan for College During College Savings Month
September 3, 2009-- Students and parents looking for guidance on saving and planning for college are encouraged to visit their local Plan4College center this month to pick up new resources to help them save early and often for higher education. Oklahoma Money Matters (OKMM) and GEAR UP, both divisions of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, are offering these resources at 31 Plan4College centers across the state in celebration of September as College Savings Month.
